Job Description

The Fire Suppression Technician is primarily responsible for servicing, installing, repairing, and replacing fire suppression and kitchen hood systems. Installing and servicing pre-engineered systems is a high liability for the company. To excel in this position, a desired candidate performs the full job in accordance with the manufacture specifications, can work with little supervision, has good communication skills, references the manual when questions arise, and is consistently looking out for the customer’s best interest.

We now specialize in sprinkler system testing, repair and installation, kitchen and restaurant systems, fire alarm design, installation and service, backflow prevention devices, full service alarm monitoring, fire pump repair and installation, and underground hydrant repairs and installation, among the many services we offer.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform service, installation, inspection and repairs on special hazard fire suppression and other related system products (including restaurant kitchen hoods, industrial paint booths, fire extinguishers, emergency & exit lighting)
  • Service, troubleshoot and install several different manufacturers’ suppression systems (including Ansul, Ansul Piranha, Amerex, Pyro-Chem, Range-Guard, Buckeye)
  • Identify NFPA code and non-compliance issues
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics and manufacturer product manuals
  • Consult and advise customers regarding potential safety issue (i.e., compliance issues, system deficiencies, electrical issues, heavy grease in exhaust hood, additional fire extinguishers, etc.)
  • Use apps to complete & produce reports that are legible, accurate and detailed prior to leaving job site
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Maintain accurate levels of parts & inventory in work vehicle to address customer needs
  • Stay current with code requirements and industry changes
  • Attend and complete all required training including safety training
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required

What You’ll Bring (requirements)

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years prior relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation, nights, and occasional weekend(s) to meet customer needs
  • Able to carry and move tools and equipment weighing up to 50-75 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders multiple times a day
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions – climbing ladders and working around ductwork, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.

  • Gain knowledge of fire systems and the tools to service them properly
  • Willing to learn other aspects of the fire protection industry to grow your knowledge
  • Don’t take short-cuts: work effectively and efficiently while performing all aspects of the required job
  • CSA Certification (must obtain within first year of hire)

  • Knowledge working with Profit Zoom, Building Reports, and Paylocity
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
